Southampton have completed the signing of defender Neal Trotman from Preston North End on loan until January.
Skysports.com revealed on Wednesday that Southampton had won the race to sign Trotman, who turned down a move to Millwall earlier this month.
Trotman has seen injuries restrict his opportunities at Preston since joining from Oldham 18 months ago and he had a spell at Colchester United at the end of last season.
He has now agreed to drop down into League One again and Saints boss Alan Pardew outlined the qualities he expects the 22-year-old to bring to his team.
Pardew told the club's official website: "Neal will bring us an aerial presence in the box that we have been lacking and I am delighted that we have been able to bring him to St Mary's on loan."
The centre-half will stay on the South Coast until 3rd January and he could make his debut in Saturday's game at home to Brentford.
