Alex McLeish doubts Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel will be a Birmingham City player in time to feature in Saturday's game with Stoke City.
Birmingham have spent the past few weeks trying to put together a deal for Michel, who impressed in the recent friendly between the two clubs at St Andrews.
A £3million deal is in the pipeline and Michel was understood to be travelling to England to undergo a medical ahead of his proposed move to the Premier League new boys.
However, Blues boss McLeish confirmed talks are still ongoing and he is unsure when a deal for the schemer will be finalised.
Up in the air
McLeish said: "The dialogue continues. It would be doubtful if we will have him for the weekend.
"I need to wait and see if everything gets agreed by all parties.
"At the moment it is up in the air. It is definitely not a done deal."
Meanwhile, McLeish is sweating on the fitness of left-back Gregory Vignal and striker Cameron Jerome for the home game with Stoke at the weekend.
Vignal suffered a hip injury during Wednesday night's win over Portsmouth while Jerome had to be substituted with an ankle problem.
"Gregory got a knock on his hip and it was restricting him. He was obviously struggling," added McLeish.
"It was a change we didn't want to make last night, but you can't legislate for injuries.
"Gregory has made a difference to the team on the left side and I would be hoping he is going to be OK for the weekend
"Jerome has a knock on his ankle. We'll have scans and we will wait and see."
