Southampton are in talks to sign midfielder Dean Hammond from League One rivals Colchester United.
Hammond joined Colchester from Brighton in a £250,000 deal 18 months ago and he has made 63 appearances during his time at the club.
However, the 26-year-old looks likely to become the latest name to leave the Weston Homes Community Stadium after Southampton confirmed discussions are at an advanced stage.
Colchester let Johnnie Jackson leave the club to join Notts County and saw manager Paul Lambert resign on Tuesday to take over at Norwich City.
Influential midfielder Hammond is set to join the exodus, with Southampton revealing they hope to finalise the deal within the next 24 hours.
Saints boss Alan Pardew is keen to strengthen his squad before the close of the transfer window as he looks to haul his team on to a positive points total after starting the campaign on minus 10.
