Inter Milan have suffered a blow ahead of the new season with the news that Esteban Cambiasso requires knee surgery.
The Argentine midfielder suffered the blow playing in a friendly match against Juventus on Friday.
Cambiasso, who has been one of the club's most consistent players in recent seasons, was sent for scans to provide an evaluation of the knock.
Inter have now confirmed that the former Real Madrid man requires a minor operation that will see him miss the start of the new season.
"The results of tests showed Esteban Cambiasso suffered an injury to the lateral meniscus of the right leg," read a statement on the club's official website.
"Inter's medical staff will perform an arthroscopic operation, which will be scheduled in the next few days."
