Southampton have completed the signing of Rickie Lambert from Bristol Rovers.
The highly-rated forward has moved to St Mary's in a deal worth more than £1million.
Lambert was joint-top scorer in League One last season with 29 goals and had been strongly linked with a move to the Championship.
But the Saints, under new ownership following a summer of turmoil behind the scenes, have now flexed their new financial muscles and snapped up Lambert.
"I am really grateful to everyone at both clubs for making this deal possible." said Lambert.
"The owner and chairman here have great plans for the club, and I am really looking forward to working with Alan Pardew."
Southampton, who began the season on minus 10 points after going into administration and being relegated last term, opened their League One account with a 1-1 draw at home to Millwall.
