Irish youngster on course to join Birmingham

Birmingham are poised to land Jay O'Shea after agreeing a fee with Galway United for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international. O'Shea, who operates on the right of midfield or as a striker, will now travel to the Midlands to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical with Alex McLeish's side. The talented 20-year-old grabbed 10 goals for Galway last season and was handed the captain's armband for their 2009 League of Ireland bid. O'Shea, who has three Under 21 caps, joined Galway in December 2007 from Bray Wanderers after starting his career with Home Farm. A statement on Birmingham's official website read: "Blues have today agreed a fee with Galway United for Republic of Ireland Under 21 star James O'Shea." McLeish has been busy in the transfer market this summer as he prepares Birmingham for their return to Premier League action. Joe Hart, Scott Dann, Roger Johnson, Giovanny Espinoza, Christian Benitez, Lee Bowyer and Barry Ferguson have all moved to St Andrews following promotion from the Championship last term.
