Late leveller ensures positive finish for French outfit

A late equaliser gave 10-man Paris St Germain a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on day two of the Emirates Cup. PSG defender Albert Baning was sent off in the 41st minute after bringing down Sergio Aguero and the Atletico striker stepped up to convert the penalty. But Ludovic Giuly struck with 19 minutes left to ensure it ended honours even in the pre-season competition at the Emirates Stadium in London. PSG had lost 1-0 to Rangers on day one while Atletico were beaten 2-1 by hosts Arsenal. Atletico started well and hit the bar through Cleber before referee Alan Wiley showed Baning a straight red card. Aguero then dusted himself down to take the spot-kick and give the Spanish side the lead. That looked destined to decide the contest until Giuly popped up late on, with the former Barcelona forward levelling matters following a fine run and cross by Stephane Sessegnon. But it was not enough to save the French outfit from the wooden spoon as Atletico claimed third place on goals scored, with Arsenal and Rangers contesting Sunday's final.
