Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Sebastien Bassong, but is unaware of any offer for the Newcastle United defender.
Sky Sports News understands that the Magpies have rejected a £10million bid for Bassong, who is keen to leave St James' Park in order to stay in the Premier League.
Arsenal, Everton and Manchester City have all been linked with the Frenchman, while Spurs watched the centre-half in a pre-season friendly against Leeds in midweek.
Redknapp is in the market for defensive reinforcements and acknowledged Bassong is a player that he is considering.
However, speaking after a 2-0 friendly defeat by South China in Hong Kong, Redknapp said he was unaware of a bid being made for Bassong.
"It is not true. Not since I have been here today," said Redknapp.
"He is a player that I was interested in. I like Bassong, he is a young player with a good future and a good central defender.
"I don't think we have made an offer as far as I know. I am sure the chairman has not made an offer."
