Derby County remain locked in discussions with Patrick Kisnorbo regarding a move to Pride Park.
The 28-year-old defender is currently available as a free agent following his release by Leicester.
He played just over an hour for the Rams during their opening pre-season friendly of the summer against Burton Albion.
Having caught the eye in that fixture, Derby were keen to talk terms with the Australia international.
Kisnorbo was left out of Nigel Clough's squad for a meeting with Chesterfield on Saturday, but the Rams boss insists the club are still looking to strike a deal.
"Patrick just felt that there wasn't much point in him playing another game and risking injury if there wasn't a deal agreed," said Clough.
"It is something we are discussing with him and his representative at the moment and it is ongoing."
