Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has revealed that the future of Dele Adebola is still uncertain as contract talks continue.
The Nigerian striker's current deal expires this summer and he has been linked with a host of City's Championship rivals, even though Sheffield Wednesday dropped their interest earlier this week.
Johnson would like Adebola to stay at Ashton Gate but admits the final decision will rest with the player.
The Robins manager is already starting to think about next season and is looking to secure some of his other key men, including midfielder Brian Wilson.
"Brian Wilson will be offered a new deal as soon as he gets over the operation that he had on his shins, so I can't see there being too many problems with that," Johnson told
skysports.com.
"There are other lads that are out of contract that we are hoping to talk to, so there won't be any news on either outgoings or incomings for a little while yet because there are still a lot of negotiations to be done.
"Dele Adebola hasn't really hinted at whether he will be staying here or not yet, but that is another one which is still in the melting pot really.
"We are hopeful that he will stay here, but it is out of our hands really because it is his prerogative to assess all the options that are available to him."
Progress
Bristol City reached the final of the Championship play-offs last season and could only finish the 2008/9 campaign in 10th, but Johnson believes progress has still been made.
He explained: "I think some people will be disappointed with this season because we got to the play-off final last year, but most will understand that a 10th-place finish in the Championship is still a very good place to finish despite competing for a top six spot up until the final few games of the season.
"We wanted to establish ourselves as a side competing for a play-off place in the Championship and we have done that again this season, so I am still pleased with the progress made."
