Spencer to join on emergency basis after Danby ruled out

Chester City have agreed a deal to sign Rochdale goalkeeper James Spencer on an emergency loan. Spencer, who has not played a first-team game for over a year, will move to the League Two strugglers subject to the completion of the relevant paperwork. The Blues are currently the subject of a transfer embargo, but have been given permission to sign Spencer after an injury to Jon Danby. Regular No.1 Danby has been ruled out for the remaining games of the season after suffering a shoulder injury against Notts County last weekend. Danby told the Chester Standard: "I'm currently on antibiotics after being told by a doctor that I had torn ligaments in my shoulder. "I picked up the injury in a collision towards the end of the game. I had gone to try and claim the ball with my arm fully stretched, but I collided with one of their players." Providing the paperwork is finalised on time, Spencer will join on a week-to-week basis and will start for Chester against Macclesfield Town on Saturday.
