Former Cruzeiro man heading back to Brazil

Fluminense have agreed a deal to sign striker Fred from French club Lyon. The Brazilian international had been linked with a host of high-profile European clubs in the past, but the 25-year-old has now chosen to return to his homeland after nearly almost four years with the French champions. Lyon have allowed Fred to cancel his contract with the club prior to the June expiry date, as the striker has been out of favour under current OL manager Claude Puel. The agreement to cut short his stay has enabled the striker to join Fluminense on a reported five-year deal ahead of the start of the Brazilian season. Fred has made nine appearances for the Brazilian national team, scoring at the 2006 World Cup in his side's first-round tie against Australia.
