Roy Carroll has been suspended by Derby County following a bust-up with Rams boss Paul Jewell.
The goalkeeper has been ordered to stay away from the club for the next two weeks after being involved in an altercation with Jewell after last Saturday's defeat to Crystal Palace.
Derby have stopped short of fining the player but Rams chairman Adam Pearson has conceded he had no alternative other than to back his manager over the incident.
Pearson went on to reiterate that Carroll still has a future with the club, describing the matter as a 'cooling off' period for both parties.
"There was an incident involving two parties in the dressing room after the game. Paul has spoken to me about it and after consultation we have decided to suspend Roy for a couple of weeks," Pearson told the Daily Mail.
"I want to stress that his career at the club is certainly not over. It is simply a cooling-off period.
"Football is a fickle business and things are said in the heat of the moment in the dressing-room. Feelings are obviously running high after a defeat.
"But Paul is Derby County's manager and with that role goes the responsibility for the dressing-room."
