Jimmy Calderwood may be set to step down as Aberdeen boss unless he receives the financial backing he requires from the club's board.
The Dons have eight players out of contract in the summer and as yet Calderwood has not been reassured that the money will be made available to keep them at the club.
Aberdeen have called a press conference for Tuesday afternoon when the futures of Barry Nicholson, Michael Hart, Chris Clark and Alexander Diamond will likely be revealed, but with Lee Miller, Steve Lovell, Richie Byrne, Derek Soutar and the manager himself also waiting on new deals, Calderwood admits that he cannot guarantee he will be in charge at Pittodrie for much longer.
Possibility
"It's not clear cut but until I've actually signed a new contract, leaving the club remains a possibility," he said.
"I hope it doesn't come to that because I want to stay here, but it is how much others want me to stay that is really going to matter.
"We'll see what develops over the next few days.
Directors
"The coaching staff and I will see how things go on the player front this week, then decide what we plan to do.
"If they leave it will be a huge blow, I don't see how we could take four players of that quality in during the transfer window.
"We feel we've done well here but it's now a case of seeing how far the directors are willing to take things forward."
