Tribunal rules on Best and Borrowdale deals

Coventry City have been ordered to pay in excess of £1million for Leon Best and Gary Borrowdale. Best moved to The Ricoh Arena in the summer from Southampton, while Borrowdale joined from Crystal Palace, but the fees needed to be decided by a tribunal. The Professional Game Compensation Committee has decreed that Coventry must pay an initial £650,000 for Best. Saints will also receive a further £500,000 depending upon appearances, as well as other payments relating to Best's success. The young striker rejected a new contract at St Mary's to sign for Coventry, and he has scored two goals in four appearances for Iain Dowie's side. Meanwhile, The Sky Blues will have to stump up an initial £400,000 for the acquisition of Borrowdale from Palace. That figure could rise to £650,000 depending upon appearances, with Borrowdale having started nine games since linking up with Coventry.
