Egyptian to join Al Ahly

Ahmed Fathi is to leave Sheffield United and join Egyptian club Al Ahly. The midfielder was only brought to Bramall Lane by Neil Warnock in the January transfer window. But he has slipped down the pecking order under Bryan Robson this season and The Blades have struck a deal with Al Ahly worth £675,000. Fathi turned down the chance to join Zamalek over the summer, but will now return to Egypt with Al Ahly. "Ahmed has been a bit unfortunate in that he was brought in by one management team and was part of their plans, but changes at the top often change a situation," Sheffield United chairman Terry Robinson told the club's official website. "It's a bit of a shame for the lad but Ahmed wasn't part of Bryan Robson's plans but he has ability and goes back with our best wishes." Prior to joining Sheffield United, Fathi played for Ismaily.
