Ajax moved three points clear of rivals PSV Eindhoven at the summit of the Eredivisie table following a hard-fought 2-0 away win over Volendam.

PSV had moved level on points at the top after their 1-0 win over Twente Enschede on Saturday, however Ajax responded in fine fashion.

Yannis Anastasiou netted the opening goal of the game with the former Roda JC man scoring after just 12 minutes of the contest at the Veronica Stadion.

The match finished in the flurry with Tomas Galasek (pictured) scoring from the penalty spot and Gijs Luirink seeing red for collecting his second yellow card.

ADO Den Haag saved themselves from their 13th league defeat of the season after snatching a late 2-2 draw at home to high-flying Feyenoord.

Feyenoord would have climbed back above AZ Alkmaar in the table with a win, avenging their 3-0 midweek defeat, but fell short in the remaining moments.

It would have been a remarkable win for the visitors in the Zuiderpark, after playing over half the game a man light following Christian Gyan's first half dismissal.

It all began so well for the home side with Romeo Castelen opening the scoring after 20 minutes, only for Robin Van Persie (pictured) to level matters shortly after.

Their joy was short-lived when Gyan was given his marching orders minutes later but Belgian international Thomas Buffel put them ahead before the break.

Despite defending bravely for the majority of the second half, Cedric van der Gun ensued the points would be shared with an 85 minute equaliser.

NEC secured their eighth win of the season after a 4-0 success over Utrecht at De Goffert.

Andrzej Niedzielan got the home side on their way with a 13th minute opener, before the visitors found themselves a man down after Jean-Paul de Jong was sent off.

The home side made the extra space count with goals from Jarda Simr, Bjorn van der Doelen and Niedzielan's second securing a comfortable victory.

FC Zwolle remain rooted to the foot of the table after a 2-0 defeat away to RKC Waalwijk.

The lowly side have won just once this season, and their poor run of form continued after first-half goals from Khalid Boulahrouz and Rogier Molhoek.
