Stoke striker Peter Odemwingie has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the Britannia Stadium until the end of the 2015-16 season.

The Nigeria international's contract also has the option of a further 12 months.

Odemwingie, who joined the Potters in January 2014, recovered from a serious knee injury which sidelined him for eight months to return to action in April.

"We're delighted that Peter has extended his stay with us at the club until the summer of 2016," said chief executive Tony Scholes.

"He suffered an unfortunate injury last season after making a big impression immediately after joining the club. Peter has worked incredibly hard to battle back from this to regain full fitness.

"He's a popular figure not just in the dressing room but with club staff and supporters so we are thrilled to keep him on board this season."

Stoke have also appointed John Coates, son of chairman Peter, as vice-chairman with Keith Humphreys stepping down from his role on the board of directors.
