Norwegian centre-half Brede Hangeland has signed a new one-year deal with Crystal Palace.

The defender's current deal runs out on June 30 and he was initially named on a list of players to be released from the club, but boss Alan Pardew has decided to keep the giant defender at Selhurst Park.

Hangeland joined the south London club last August on a free transfer, having left Fulham after the Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League, and made 17 appearances for the Eagles.

Hangeland told the club's website: “I’m delighted to have signed with Crystal Palace for the new season. I have really enjoyed working under Alan Pardew and we have a very talented squad who are all a really good bunch of lads to be around.

“These are very exciting times at the club and I look forward to playing a part in making next year in another successful one.”
