Flitcroft explains Mills loan

David Flitcroft has revealed the strength in depth in Bury's defence was the reason he allowed Pablo Mills to speak to Cheltenham.

It was announced on Thursday morning that Mills, 30, would link up with Russell Milton's Robins on a loan deal pending the completion of the relevant paperwork. Mills has played 23 times for the Shakers this season and was seen as something of a key figure in the early part of the campaign. However, having not played since December because of a groin strain, Flitcroft explained that a change of system and his faith in Nathan Cameron, Adam El Abd, Jim McNulty and Keil O'Brien were factors in Mills' switch. "Pabs has obviously been out for six weeks," he said at the unveiling of Bury's new multi-million pound training complex in Carrington. "It's an area we're really rich in, certainly since I've changed from a back three to two centre-halves now. "Cam's form all season has just been consistent and outstanding. Adam El Abd has come in and given us real aggression in defence. Nults has played the last few games and he's been brilliant and we've got Keil O'Brien too. "It's a good opportunity to get Pabs some games and get him out there. Plus, he's going to be in a rhythm and if we need him, and have to get him called back, we can do that."
