La Liga: Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela faces two months out after knee surgery

Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela faces two months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his right knee.

Vela had to be substituted in La Real's 4-1 defeat at European champions Real Madrid at the weekend, and required immediate surgery.

The Spanish club said Vela went under the knife on Monday to repair a "tear in the meniscus of his right knee".

The Mexican's absence will be a huge blow to boss David Moyes, who has used the former Arsenal star as the focal point of his attack since his arrival in San Sebastian.

Real Sociedad are 13th in the league, but only four points above the relegation zone as Moyes looks to get their season heading in the right direction.
