Sheffield United goalkeeper George Long has joined Motherwell in a loan deal until the end of the season.

The England U21 keeper, who spent time on loan at Oxford United earlier this season, has played 80 times for Nigel Clough's League One side.

The 21-year-old, will offer competition to Dan Twardzik, Gunnar Nielsen and Ross Stewart for the number one spot at Fir Park.

Speaking to the club's official website, Motherwell boss Ian Baraclough said: “His pedigree is undoubted having had recognition through the England youth set-up, up to and including the Under 21s team.

“Hopefully he can continue the tradition at this football club of taking goalkeepers from England and developing them on.”

Long, who made his first-team debut for United in May 2011, said: "I’m really looking forward to it and it’s a new challenge for me to play in Scotland.

“It will be great to get back playing and hopefully help push the team up the table. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the club and the manager so I can’t wait to get started.”
