Southern signs for Shrewsbury

Out-of-favour Fleetwood midfielder Keith Southern has joined Shrewsbury on loan until the end of the season.

Southern, 33, was seen as a major acquisition when the Cod Army lured him to Highbury in the summer before their maiden campaign in the third tier. However, a hip injury kept him on the sidelines to begin with before he fell down the pecking order under Fleetwood manager Graham Alexander. Former Blackpool midfielder Southern has made just three appearances in total for Fleetwood and joins a Shrews side managed by ex-Cod Army manager Micky Mellon. Southern posted a message on his Twitter account on Friday which revealed his absence from Alexander's first team was not due to injury. It read: "For the countless people asking 'are u injured?' The answer is No I'm not!!! and have been fully fit for 4 months. #traineverday #justsaying".
