Sinclair leaves Northampton

Emile Sinclair has had his contract at Northampton terminated, the club have confirmed.

The striker signed permanently from Crawley in the summer but has made just one league start for the Cobblers this season. They were prepared to listen to offers for the 27-year-old as early as August and have now allowed him to leave for free. "Emile departs with our best wishes," said boss Chris Wilder. "He came in last season at an important time and helped get us pick some up much-needed results. "He has fallen down the pecking order this season and that is a sign of the progress we have made. He needs to be playing regular football, which he would struggle to do here. "We wish Emile well and we are looking to add to the squad before the transfer window closes." Sinclair netted three times in 34 games, 14 as a substitute, since initially joining the League Two side from Crawley on loan 12 months ago. Meanwhile, boss Wilder is keen to keep Ricky Holmes, who scored the winner in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Dagenham, with his loan from Portsmouth expiring at the end of the month. "We'd like to keep him, obviously there are a lot of things that go into signing a player but Ricky is enjoying his football here," he told the Northampton Chronicle. "He has done well in this period and hopefully it will be extended. He's done great for us and it's no coincidence that our results have picked up since he's been here."
