West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt has welcomed the appointment of Tony Pulis as the club’s new head coach.

Pulis has taken over the reins from Alan Irvine at The Hawthorns and he watched from the stands at Upton Park on New Year's Day as his team earned a 1-1 draw with West Ham.

The former Stoke and Crystal Palace manager also spoke to the Albion players before the game and again at half-time.

Brunt said: “We’ve seen his track record everywhere he has been. His teams are very difficult to break down and they win games.

“At the moment that is exactly what we need to do. We’re conceding a lot of goals and we’re not winning games so he’s probably a perfect fit for us at the moment.

“He nipped in a couple of times today and said his piece and he seems a pretty positive guy and hopefully we can adapt to whatever he wants us to do and start climbing the league table.”

When asked about Pulis’ instructions, Brunt replied: “He just passed on a few bits and pieces obviously what he saw, but I think a lot of it was about positivity and trying to get shots and crosses in when we were going forward.

“As I said confidence isn’t very high in the camp at the minute and we haven’t been scoring a lot of goals and we’ve been conceding a lot of goals so I think the shoe has been on the wrong foot for us at the minute.

“We’re sort of looking over our shoulders and making sure we are not losing the game rather than going all out and trying to win it and I think that was more his message after the game.

“If we had taken the game more by the horns then we could have got all three points so I think sitting up there in the stands today he has probably seen a lot of positives.

“I’m sure there are a few things he wants to tighten up on and I’m sure over the next few games we’ll get that right.”
