McGivern out for six weeks

Port Vale could be without Ryan McGivern for up to six weeks after the defender had a plate fitted in his arm.

McGivern, 24, fractured his left arm in last week's 2-0 home defeat against Coventry and subsequently missed Saturday's win at Crawley. Vale boss Rob Page said: "It's not great news for him. He has fractured his arm and the reasons we waited to put that out were because we have had to see the extent of it. "He has had to have a plate in his arm, so we will have to wait and see how long the healing time is for that. "We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. Anything with a break is normally six weeks but we are hoping he can get back sooner than that if he can play with a protective covering." McGivern, who joined Vale from Hibernian last summer, had forced his way back into the Northern Ireland squad for their European Championships qualifying campaign.
