Premier League: Fit-again James Ward-Prowse confident Southampton will regain top form

James Ward-Prowse is confident Southampton can get through their recent blip of bad form.

Saturday's 1-0 loss at Burnley was a fourth successive defeat for Southampton after a stunning start to the season.

But they still lie in fifth place, just two points shy of West Ham who occupy the last of the four coveted European Champions League spots.

The return to action of 20-year-old midfielder Ward-Prowse after almost three months out with an ankle injury was one of the main positives for Southampton from the trip to Turf Moor.

He said: "Of course, I'm happy to be back but disappointed not to get the three points to turn the run around.

"It's not a concern. We've had a good start and every team goes through a blip during the season where they struggle a little bit but that's part of football and it's up to us to change that."

Dusan Tadic missed a penalty for Saints before Burnley scored their winner through Ashley Barnes.

"The penalty was a big moment for us. Unfortunately we didn't take it and it gave Burnley the upper hand to go on and win the game," added Ward-Prowse.

Southampton now set their sights on hosting Everton on Saturday in the first match of their busy Christmas schedule.
