Premier League: Chelsea's Loic Remy determined to prove his worth to Jose Mourinho

Loic Remy is determined to prove to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho that he deserves a bigger role in the Blues’ title push this season.

The Frenchman scored an impressive goal in Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat of Tottenham when he left Jan Vertonghen in his wake before coolly slotting past Hugo Lloris.

Remy has found his opportunities under Mourinho limited since joining from QPR as his path to the first team has been blocked by Diego Costa and Didier Drogba.

The 27-year-old’s strike against Spurs was just his second goal in Chelsea’s 14 league games this season and he has managed just 350 minutes on the pitch.

Despite his struggles for regular playing time, Remy insists he is very happy at Stamford Bridge and remains determined to prove to Mourinho he can rely on him.

I feel really proud to be on the bench but of course I want to play, that is why I work hard during training sessions.

"I felt very happy after this goal. When you're a striker you want to score every game,” Remy told the club’s website.

"The opportunity was there because Diego wasn't involved. Didier played well again.

"For me it's important. I took my chance and scored this goal. I can give him (Mourinho) another opportunity and he can count on me any time he wants."

Remy missed games earlier in the season after injuring a groin in the Blues’ 6-0 Champions League thrashing of Maribor but he is fully fit now and looking forward to aiding Chelsea’s push for trophies on four different fronts over the busy Christmas period.

“Because I was injured, it was good for the confidence for me to come in and score,” he said. “I was very happy and very proud but it was the work of all the team that made me score.

“I feel really proud to be on the bench but of course I want to play, that is why I work hard during training sessions.

“But we have three good strikers and the others show me a good example, they are very professional and for me it is a real pleasure to play with this kind of player.

“I try to increase my level and improve and it is really good to work with them, and every time the manager wants to use me, I try to do my best.

“There are a lot of games coming up so I am not worried about staying on the bench. We are in all competitions so we need everybody.”
