Nathaniel Clyne is delighted that Southampton have maintained their fine start to the season as he pursues his two-pronged dream on the domestic and international stage.
In front of the watching Roy Hodgson, Victor Wanyama's wonder strike was enough to give Southampton victory at Hull - a seventh win from eight league matches that keeps them on Chelsea's coat-tails.
Clyne, who made the England squad for the recent European Qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia, told Sky Sports News HQ: "We’re on a good run of form at the moment, we keep winning we keep getting clean sheets as well which we’ve been working hard on in training so hopefully we can continue our good run and see where we can go with it.
"We’re just going to keep pushing hard. A few of the lads were talking about Europe and stuff but we are just going to keep pushing and hopefully the results take care of themselves.
"It’s always good to play for your country, if you play well you’ll get picked as I did last time. Hopefully I’ll get called up again and I can win my first cap.
"Yeah definitely (I think have done enough to keep my place in the squad). I think I have the ability to play for my country and I’m showing that week-to-week. The team is playing well and hopefully I can get the call-up next time.
"I’m playing with lots of confidence and the players that are playing with me are helping me to push on. We’re performing well and hopefully we can continue that."
Goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who kept his eighth clean sheet in 13 appearances for Southampton, was another hoping to have caught the eye of the England coach.
He said: "All I can do really is to play well for Southampton and keep just trying to stay in and around the England squad and keep working as hard as I can that’s all I can do.
"Joe Hart is obviously a fantastic keeper and has been playing fantastically well this season and so has Ben Foster. The three of us are a great group and we all work really hard and it would be nice if I am in the squad again.
"Both of them (Bertrand and Clyne) have been fantastic for us all season. Clyne was obviously in the last squad so hopefully he can get in again and it would be fantastic to see Ryan in the squad.
"He’s been such a consistent performer for us all season if we can keep playing well and keep picking up results then all of those players will be knocking on the door."
