Hartlepool have signed Dutch winger Sidney Schmeltz on a short-term deal.

Schmeltz, 25, previously worked with new Pools boss Paul Murray at Oldham and has now penned a contract after a brief trial period at Victoria Park.

He began his professional career in his homeland with Willem II and also played for Almere City, Sparta Rotterdam and SC Veendam before moving to Oldham in June 2013 on a free transfer.

Schmeltz spent a month out on loan at Shrewsbury and then left Boundary Park in February when his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
