Capital One Cup: Daryl Janmaat feels pressure easing at Newcastle ahead of trip to Manchester City

Daryl Janmaat believes back-to-back Premier League victories have helped to ease the pressure on Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew.

There were mounting calls for a managerial change at St James’ Park prior to a recent upturn in fortune.

Points help to bring positivity, though, and Newcastle have taken seven from their last three outings – including welcome wins over Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

We do not want another manager. If you lose games then it is normal (for the manager to be questioned), but now I expect the pressure to ease on him.

Summer signing Janmaat feels the mood on Tyneside has started to improve and hopes Pardew will now be given the support he needs to keep moving the club in the right direction.

The Dutch defender said: "The manager was under a lot of pressure so it's nice that we have given him these points.

"The pressure has eased. We want him as the manager - of course. We want him.

"We needed points and we need to be higher in the table. Two wins in a row after a draw has been very good for us."

Newcastle would appear to have found form at just the right time, with a Capital One Cup clash with holders Manchester City on Wednesday followed by another tough top-flight test against Liverpool on Saturday.

Janmaat added: "City have a big squad and a great squad - even their second team is very good.

"It will be a tough game but if we play like we did in the second half at Spurs, then of course we have a chance.

"We've had a great start to the week and we want to win the next two now."

Asked if the cup success is considered to be important when placed against the side's league form, Janmaat said: "Of course, it is a prize and Newcastle have not won one since 1969.

"It would be a great party if we won a prize. The fans want that very much."
