Premier League: Right-back not an option for David Meyler at Hull

David Meyler believes it is unlikely he will ever feature at right-back for Hull City despite playing in that role for the Republic of Ireland.

The 25-year-old normally operates in central midfield but was selected as an emergency right-back by Ireland boss Martin O’Neill for the recent European Qualifiers against Gibraltar and Germany.

Meyler is keen to get back into Steve Bruce’s Tigers’ team, having made just three substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season, but he does not see the right-back position as a route back.

"I think the manager is quite happy with Ahmed Elmohamady and Liam Rosenior at right-back," he said ahead of Saturday's trip to Arsenal.

"I don't think I'll ever be playing right-back for him. But it's down to myself. I've got two 90 minutes under my belt in the last six days and I'm looking forward to getting back to training and ready to go again.

"That's the same for everyone who's not playing and I missed the last squad. It's got to be the player to put yourself back in the manager's plans and make sure you're not forgotten about.

"It's very easy and it happened to a few people here last year. I played 30 Premier League games last season and I want to keep going and build on that."
