Wolves goalkeeper Aaron McCarey will be sidelined for up to three months following back surgery.

The 22-year-old, understudy to first choice Carl Ikeme this season, has been struggling with a disc problem for several months and boss Kenny Jackett wants the Irishman back to his best as quickly as possible.

"It's quite serious," Jackett told the club's official website. "I would estimate two to three months (out).

"It's something that's been ongoing - he's felt it pretty much all season."

Jackett added: "He's a different lad from this time last year when he was saving penalties against Walsall, which would explain a lot.

"So it's the right thing and he'll be better for it."

Jon Flatt, 20, will provide cover for Ikeme during McCarey's rehabilitation.
