Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has insisted he is nearing return from a nightmare 13-month injury lay-off.

The 23-year old has been confined to the treatment table for over a year with a persistent back problem which has baffled club doctors as they tried to treat the problem.

However, with reserve team game-time planned, the former FC Nurnberg starlet is targeting a return to action after the set of Euro 2016 qualifiers in mid-November.

“The day of my return will come,” Gundogan told kicker-Sportmagazin. “It is not too far off, I can tell you.

“The fitness to go through a full match is not there yet.

“I would want to be back in the Dortmund squad after the international fixtures in November."

However, Gundogan wanted to reiterate that he will not be rushed back to the fray, and if he is not ready, he will be willing to delay his comeback yet again.

“It is clear we are still to wait and see,” Gundogan added.

“We will not force me into anything!”
