Scottish League Cup: Ryan Jack injury mars Aberdeen victory

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes fears his team's 4-0 League Cup victory over Livingston may have come at a cost after Ryan Jack was carried off with a knee injury.

The 22-year-old midfielder fell to the turf when stretching to make a tackle and had to be substituted in the 71st minute at Pittodrie.

McInnes said: "We don't know how serious Ryan's injury is yet. He is a real concern to us at the moment because it is the follow-through from a challenge and I think on the inside of his knee there is damage there but we're unsure of the extent of that yet.

"I think it will be wise to see how he is tomorrow and get his knee scanned and looked at properly.

"If I sound subdued, it is because of that really and I'm delighted to get through and keep another clean sheet but obviously we're hoping it is nothing too serious for wee Jacko."

The holders marched into the quarter-finals thanks to clinical finishing from Adam Rooney, who scored a second-half hat-trick after Ash Taylor had headed the hosts into an eighth-minute lead.

McInnes said: "Adam's goals were confidently taken. He's pleased with his hat-trick as we all are.

"He came back into the team on Saturday and there are few better than him in and around the penalty box. He's a real predator and poacher and he showed real quality finishes as well tonight.

"There were a lot of good performances but I think 4-0 is harsh on Livingston. They showed themselves as a very good side. I don't want to sound patronising and I am just delighted we made it through after a very good second half performance."

Livingston boss John McGlynn echoed his counterpart's comments, claiming his men were better than the scoreline suggested.

McGlynn said: "Until the second goal went in, we gave a good account of ourselves. The first hour we were positive but Aberdeen's clinical finishing was the difference.

"They have got good attacking players and they also showed that last weekend against Ross County."
