Derby captain Richard Keogh has agreed a new three-year contract with the Sky Bet Championship outfit.

Keogh, 28, will become the latest in a long list of players to commit his future to the Rams when he puts pen to paper this week.

Craig Bryson, Craig Forsyth, Jamie Ward, Will Hughes, Jake Buxton, Mason Bennett, Jeff Hendrick and Chris Martin have all extended their stays at the iPro Stadium recently.

Derby head coach Steve McClaren is pleased he has been able to tie down his 'leader.'

"The new contract should be signed in the coming days and we are delighted with that," said McClaren following Saturday's 2-2 draw against Cardiff.

"I thought Richard was excellent again in the Cardiff game. He is valuable to us on and off the field as our leader.

"The team is good at the moment, the future is bright and we have got all of our best players under long-term contracts. That is important to us.

"To extend all of our top players for three or four years, the club has done a good job."

Keogh has been ever-present for Derby this season and the central defender has made 106 appearances for the Rams since he joined the club from Coventry a little over two years ago.
