Leicester City defender Ritchie De Laet has said that he is not worried by the competition that he will face from Danny Simpson this season.

De Laet has been the first-choice right-back for the Foxes since his switch to the club from Manchester United in the summer of 2012.

Following Leicester’s promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season, manager Nigel Pearson decided to bring in Danny Simpson from Queens Park Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old, also a former United player, has experience of playing in the English top flight from his time at Newcastle United among others.

However, De Laet insists that he is not concerned by losing his place in the starting line-up and is keen on carrying on the hard work.

"It is good to have Danny on board," the 25-year-old told the Leicester Mercury. "It keeps me sharp in training. As long as I do well in games and in training then, hopefully, I will get picked.

"It is up to the gaffer (Nigel Pearson) who he picks and if he wants to change it he can now, but I have the shirt at the moment and as long as I do well it is mine.

"I have needed some adapting time, like everyone else. It is a steep learning curve but you have to learn quickly in the Premier League and each game brings up something different.

"It is different. I can't get forward as much as I would like because you don't have a lot of the ball for long spells like we did last season.”
