West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster has admitted his mistake against Everton at The Hawthorns in the Premier League on Saturday.
West Brom lost 2-0 and the 31-year-old England international was at fault for conceding the second goal in the 66th minute, when he allowed Kevin Mirallas’ shot to slip underneath him.
Foster has been carrying an injury on his left thumb, but he admits that it had nothing to with his error against Everton.
“The thumb’s okay,” the 31-year-old said.. “I chipped a bit of bone off in training last week. Hopefully I won’t need surgery.
“But the mistake I made was down to my right so I can’t use it as an excuse.
"It was like a schoolboy mistake. You have no one to blame but yourself.”
Foster was forced to return from England duty during the recent international break due to the injury but believes he can cope with the problem with the aid of pain-killing jabs.
He said: "I am managing it pretty well and getting some injections in it to kill the pain, so it's fine.
"It is the way it is and I just have to hope it heals itself.
"I'm hopeful it will and the doctors are as well, so that's that."
