Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has backed former team-mate Javier Hernandez to be a success at Real Madrid.

Hernandez, who moved to Old Trafford in 2010, joined the European champions on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal this summer after falling down the pecking order at United.

The 26-year-old was limited to just six league starts last season as he was mainly used off the bench, but De Gea believes he will prove his worth in La Liga.

"Javier plays in few matches but still scores many goals. I do not doubt that he will be a triumph at Real," he told Cope Radio.

"If the coach has confidence, he always offers the maximum on the pitch.

"Personally, he is a big person. For me, he is one of the best companions that I’ve had in my career.

"I will always be grateful for his help when I arrived at Manchester United.

"I am totally convinced that this season he will be very important for Real."
