Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy insists he has no regrets over allowing striker Paul Taylor to join Rotherham on loan.

Taylor, who joined for a reported £1.5million from Peterborough in 2012, struggled to establish himself at Portman Road and made just seven league starts following his switch.

The transfer-listed 26-year-old has one year remaining on his current deal with McCarthy’s side and has joined Championship rivals Rotherham on loan for the first half of the season.

Taylor has impressed in his five appearances for the South Yorkshire side, but McCarthy is unconvinced that the striker would have made an impact if he had stayed with Ipswich.

"He’s there until January. Listen, I know there are a lot of people who have a really good feel for Paul but there’s nothing I can do about that," he told Green 'Un

"I haven’t seen it in my team whenever he’s played – whether that’s starting or coming off the bench. If I had I wouldn’t have let him go.

"Maybe how he’s playing at Rotherham suits him, I think he played wide left against Millwall recently.

"I don’t know how many glowing reports he’s getting but good luck to him. I guess he’s still our player when all’s said and done."
