Watford striker Troy Deeney has signed a new four-year deal with the club.

The 26-year-old, Watford's top scorer last season, had been linked with a number of Premier League clubs, including Leicester, QPR, Burnley and Hull.

But the Hornets confirmed on Wednesday that Deeney had committed his future to the Championship club, adding that the player "feels that he can realise his Premier League ambitions with the Hornets".

He has scored two goals in four appearances to help the Hertfordshire club to second in the table.

Deeney joined Watford from Walsall in August 2010 and has gone on to score 62 goals in 138 starts for the Hornets.

Deeney's decision to remain at Watford could raise further doubts about the future of manager Beppe Sannino, with growing speculation that he could be sacked following reports of dressing room unrest.

The Italian refused to discuss whether he had lost the support of his squad in a recent interview and watched his side slip out of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday after a 2-1 defeat against Doncaster.
