Transfer news: Steve Evans expecting to avoid sales at Rotherham

Steve Evans is confident he can keep the likes of Ben Pringle at Rotherham United and add to his squad before the window closes.

Highly-rated midfielder Pringle, who netted the winner as Rotherham edged out Millwall on Saturday, is said to be attracting interest from Premier League side Hull City.

Evans has no intention of sanctioning sales, though, as he looks to piece together a squad that can be competitive in the Sky Bet Championship.

We have sold Kieran Agard to Bristol City and I don’t see any other players going out the door – I don’t think the chairman will allow it.

Instead, he is hoping to add to the 15 fresh faces he has already drafted in this summer and build towards a brighter future.

Evans said on his plans for the final week of transfer activity: “I am pretty safe at the minute in terms of outgoings.

“We have sold Kieran Agard to Bristol City and I don’t see any other players going out the door – I don’t think the chairman will allow it.

“We will try and make one or two bids this week and see how they go.

“But we understand there is a pecking order in the Championship for players. We are not one of the huge clubs.”

Rotherham may not be a big-hitter, but Lee Frecklington believes they have shown in the opening weeks of the 2014/15 campaign that they are deserving of a standing in the second tier.

He said: “We have had four tough games and we have competed in every one of them.

“Our performances have shown we can compete at this level.

“We are not going to get carried away. We knew we could compete and as long as we do that, we are going to pick up enough points.”
