Transfer news: Celtic check on Ali Al Habsi

Celtic are understood to be gearing up a move for Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi, should they look to replace Fraser Forster, Sky Sports understands.

The Scottish champions sold their number one Forster to Southampton over the weekend, and they are now assessing their options in goal.

Celtic currently have Craig Gordon and Lukasz Zaluska vying for the number one jersey but boss Ronny Deila is considering bringing in another keeper for competition.

Now Al Habsi, who is ready to leave Wigan after Uwe Rosler opted for Scott Carson in their opening game of the season with Reading at the weekend, has emerged as a prime target - who is also interesting other clubs in the Premier League and Championship.

Middlesbrough's Jason Steele, who has dropped down the pecking order at The Riverside under Aitor Karanka, is also thought to be on their radar.
