Brentford have signed former Cardiff City and QPR midfielder Tommy Smith on a one-year contract.
The 34-year-old, had been on trial with the Bees since the middle of July and played in two of Brentford’s pre-season friendlies, having trained with the club for around three weeks.
Tommy will bring a level of experience to the squad. I am sure he will make a valuable contribution over the season ahead.
Brentford manager Mark Warburton said: "I am delighted that the period Tommy spent training with us has come to a successful conclusion.
"We always knew Tommy would add value on and off the pitch. He needed to find fitness after a season without much football at Cardiff.
"Tommy will bring a level of experience to the squad. I am sure he will make a valuable contribution over the season ahead."
The Bees' sporting director Frank McParland added: "Tommy and his agent Steve Kutner have been a pleasure to deal with over the past few weeks.
"Tommy has made it clear that he really wants to play for Brentford.
"All our discussions have been about how much Tommy wanted to join the Club and not about money, and that is great for us to hear.
"Mark and I are delighted we have concluded the deal and Tommy is now a Brentford player."
Smith joins Brentford as a free agent, after he was released by Cardiff following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
He played 24 games as the Welsh side were promoted to the Premier League in 2012/13 but failed to make an appearance in the top flight.
The experienced midfielder started out at Watford before spells at Portsmouth, QPR and Cardiff, spending his entire career playing in the top two tiers of English football, gaining promotion to the Premier League on four occassions.
Smith will join former Rochdale striker Scott Hogan among the new arrivals at Griffin Park, with Bees manager Warburton hopeful of further additions to his squad for the forthcoming season.
