Transfer news: Inter Milan still discussing deal for Cardiff's Gary Medel

Inter Milan remain locked in talks regarding a deal for Cardiff City midfielder Gary Medel, with no agreement reached as yet.

With Cardiff having slipped out of the Premier League in 2013/14, they have been bracing themselves for interest in key men.

Medel falls into that category and, despite spending just one year in South Wales, appears destined to move on.

The combative Chile international starred at the World Cup finals in Brazil and has been heavily linked with a switch to Italy ever since that campaign came to a close.

The important thing is to respect other clubs. For that reason, I don’t want my officials talking to players before talking to their clubs.
Erik Thohir

No transfer has been put in place, though, as Cardiff have made Inter, and any other suitors, aware that they are not prepared to let a man snapped up for £11million leave on the cheap.

Inter president Erik Thohir told Gazzetta dello Sport on the transfer discussions: "We are still discussing a few details and I don’t want to announce anything before a deal is done.

"It is clear that we must also consider alternatives.

"I don't want to name names but there are a few players that have said no to us in the past that may have changed their mind.”

Inter are also said to be monitoring the likes of Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic and Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela, but Thohir is reluctant to be drawn on the identity of those on his summer wish list.

He added: "We don’t know what will happen. The market is open.

"The important thing is to respect other clubs. For that reason, I don't want my officials talking to players before talking to their clubs.

"Clearly we need to sign a midfielder and a striker, but revealing names won’t help our plans."
