Transfer news: Simon Mignolet backs Liverpool target Divock Origi and welcomes Pepe Reina return

Liverpool are closing in on striker Divock Origi and the Belgium youngster has been tipped to shine in the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers is expected to soon confirm the 19-year-old Lille forward, who scored a late winner against Russia at the World Cup in Brazil, as his sixth signing of the summer.

And one of Origi's international team-mates, Reds goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, reckons he has all the qualities to make an impact in a team shorn of star attacker Luis Suarez.

"He did really well for Belgium," Mignolet said of a player also linked with Tottenham. "We didn't know that much about him but he came in and showed something to the outside world.

Simon Mignolet has backed his fellow Liverpool and Belgium teammate Divock Origi to be a success at Anfield.

"He's definitely got ability; he's strong and quick, he's got skill, he can score a goal as well, so he's got all the qualities you need to become a top striker in the Premier League."

Pepe Reina has returned to Anfield following a season on loan at Napoli but Mignolet insisted he is relishing fresh competition for the goalkeeper's jersey.

"Competition can only be a good thing," Mignolet added.

"It makes you a better player. I'm very happy that everyone is here; we'll work hard in training and push each other on to a better level."
