Vernon ready for new challenge

Shrewsbury's latest signing Scott Vernon has said he is raring to get started with his new club.

The 30-year-old forward signed a two-year deal at Greenhous Meadow having left Aberdeen, where he had scored 44 goals during a four-year spell. Vernon is not taking his place in the team for granted, though, and is prepared for the hard work that lies ahead. "I felt I was due a change and a fresh challenge and that is at Shrewsbury and one that I'm totally looking forward to," he told the club's official website. "I just want to bring my qualities to the table and cement my place in the team and to be playing football and doing my best to give 100 per cent to make sure that I'm there giving my all and helping the team every Saturday. "I know it's not a given and I'll need to work hard and prove myself." Vernon joins a number of new faces in the Shrews' squad as the club look to bounce back from last season's relegation. Pre-season training gets underway later this week and Vernon is looking forward to meeting his new team-mates. He added: "I've noticed a few of the others that (manager) Micky (Mellon) has brought into the squad and they are all good players. "There is a lot of quality in the squad already and hopefully we can play the way that the manager wants and to be successful by doing that. "I'm sure the lads will be raring to go with there being a new manager. It will hopefully be an exciting time."
