Craig Westcarr is confident he can make the step up to the Championship after leaving Walsall this week.

The 29-year-old striker scored 17 goals for the Saddlers in League One this season and is reportedly attracting interest from Blackburn and Bolton following his exit from the Banks's Stadium. Westcarr said: "I sat down with the gaffer and we were both open with each other. We both decided it would be best all-round if I look for a new club. I wish them well. "I haven't really thought too much much about my future, I'm very open-minded so we'll just see what comes up in the next few weeks. "I'm ambitious and I want to play at the highest level possible and I'm good enough to do that." Westcarr was one of eight players to leave the Saddlers on Wednesday as boss Dean Smith reshapes his squad this summer. Smith is keen to keep defender Andy Butler, but he is also expected to move elsewhere, with fellow League One clubs Sheffield United and Scunthorpe tracking his situation.
