Long-serving midfielder Andy Monkhouse is one of four players released by Hartlepool.

The 33-year-old moved to Victoria Park on a permanent basis in January 2007 following a successful loan stint from Swindon. Monkhouse made 322 appearances for Pools, scoring 52 times, and is one of just 16 players to have achieved more than 300 games for the club. Simon Walton has also been told he can leave, with his last game seeing him sent off during the 2-1 win over Morecambe which guaranteed survival. Teenage midfielder Greg Rutherford, whose sole first-team appearance came in March, and 19-year-old forward Zak Boagey - who made just one substitute outing in April 2013 - have also departed. Meanwhile, the club have exercised the options on Jack Compton, Michael Duckworth, Scott Flinders, Jonathan Franks, Darren Holden, Luke James, Andy Rafferty, Jordan Richards and Josh Rowbotham, who will remain with the club.
