Promotion sweet for O'Connor

Brentford captain Kevin O'Connor admitted promotion is all the sweeter this season after the heartbreak of 12 months ago.

The Bees missed out on the final day last term after Marcello Trotta took the penalty-taking duties from O'Connor, only to hit the crossbar and see Doncaster break down the other end and score the goal that secured the title. But defender O'Connor made his 500th Brentford appearance on Saturday as the west Londoners finally celebrated their promotion with a 2-0 win over Stevenage. "It is karma," he said. "For whatever reason, it didn't happen for us last year. It is crazy how it worked out. "We are stronger for it, the club is in a better position and we look forward to going up. "I think this is sweeter after last year. And to do it the way we did it as well, with three games to go so there was no last-day drama. It was a party atmosphere."
